Successful Business Relationships

A major study of Australian business leaders on behalf of the Victorian Small Business Commissioner revealed that the most successful companies – big and small – believe that their relationships with other businesses is vital to their success in today's relationship-driven marketplace.

The study validates one of the primary purposes of this Chamber of Commerce, substantiating our motto: Belonging IS good business!

How does your business score with their success behaviours?

- Alignment: Working with businesses that share the same values
- Commitment: based on trust, to treat each relationship as long term.
- Mutual Interest: Businesses working together to achieve a common goal of a profitable, sustainable and on-going relationship.
- Communication: Clear, transparent, frequent and at the right level
- Accountable and Responsible: Agreeing to obligations and responsibilities and immediately alerting business partners of any problem or mistake.
- Professional Conduct: In all interactions
- Pre-agreed Dispute Resolution: Essential by which any disagreements can be dealt with quickly and the relationship can continue with minimum disruption.

Copies of the report, "Forming and Maintaining Winning Business Relationships" can be downloaded below, as well as a copy of a 6 page summary and a flyer.

Young Chamber provides an informal, vibrant environment for young people in business, to meet and share ideas. As a sub-committee of CCCI, Young Chamber exists to endorse “pro-business” principles, and deliver to Chamber's primary mandate of supporting and promoting commerce & industry in the outer-eastern region.

In practical terms YC brings together like minded people who keep pushing each other to do more, to do better, to innovate more easily & effectively, and grow the kinds of businesses that people can't help but recommend to others.

The Young Chamber Team organizes a buzz-full event for members each quarter that helps people grow their business, network, further their career, develop skills, and interact with other like-minded “stars” of local trade and commerce.

The events are valuable, relevant, and (importantly!) great fun!

MYOB MEDIA RELEASE

Embargoed until 16 November 2010

MYOB MONITOR FINDS AUSTRALIAN BUSINESSES SUFFERING POST ELECTION BLUES

Revenue and sales pipeline shrivels as dissatisfaction toward Federal government spikes

After a rapid fall-off in business activity post eleclion, MYOB is calling on the Government to provide greater clarity on a range of policies, to give Australian business owners the confidence to invest in employment and growth - and restart a stalling economy.

MYOB today released startling findings from its quarterly Business Monitor research with more businesses reporting revenue decreases (34%), where an additional 12% of business owners have seen revenues decline since August. The outlook for the next three month is also bleak for more than a quarter of businesses surveyed, with 26% claiming they have tess work in their sales pipeline than normal Gust 14% had less work on in August than normal).

Tim Reed, CEO MYOB said, "The MYOB Business Monitor researches real business performance and gives business owners a voice to hightight their key pressures and concerns. In the eight year history of survey we have not seen business performance fall off a ctiff like this."

The MYOB Business Monitor also found that dissatisfaction among business owners with the Federal Government has leapt from 31% to 48%. As a result, close to half (46%) of Australian business owners were unhappy with the result of the Federal election (and 10% would have changed their vote if the election had had to be repeated).

"If we look deeper, almost half of all business owners report they are being inhibited in the achievement of their business goals by trying to understand the impact of Government legislation and by having to deal with red tape," Mr Reed added.

"It is clear from these results that the political turmoil following the Federal election has seen business owners put growth plans on hold while they wait for certainty around taxation reform, the superannuation guarantee and carbon pricing."

"Given the significant impact that these legislative changes would have on many business owners, we are unlikely to see these indicators improve until a clearer picture of what they might entail is presented to Parliament," Mr Reed commented.

"We call upon both the Gillard and Abbott camps to put aside petty political point scoring and focus on bipartisan activities that provide more certainly and confidence for Australian b~sinesses. Business owners have made it clear they want political leadership around taxation reform, reduction of red tape and
investment funding incentives that will make business life easier and kick start growth."

"This is a serious situation. Small and medium sized businesses make up 95% of all Australian businesses and are the engine room of the economy - and right now that engine has stalled," Mr Reed concluded.

Other significant findings from the MYOB Business Monitor included:
• DISSATISFACTION WITH STATE GOVTS SPIKES: 53% of business owners are dissatisfied with the State Government's level of support (up from 46% in March). The most dissatisfied were Queensland (64%), South Australia (59%) and New South Wales (53%).
• BIGGEST DECREASES IN REVENUE: 40% of businesses in agriculture, 36% in of Retail and Hospitality, 42% in Queensland and 41 % of South Australian business owners report revenue decreases over the last 12 months.
• CASH FLOW CONCERNS: Close to a third (31%) of business owners are waiting longer to get paid than six months ago. This makes their cash fiow management all the more important.
• INNOVATION INCREASES: Increasing signs of innovation as 24% of business report they had increased the variety of products and services offered and 22% increased activity in new markets.
• CONFIDENCE FALLS: confidence in an economic recovery has dropped by a significant 7% since August.

Notes to editors:
